We can all agree that most of us are spending a lot more time indoors. Our homes, once our sanctuaries, have turned into a mix of our office, daycare, school, and even gyms. If you’re finding yourself feeling tired, overwhelmed, and burnt out then it’s time to create more peace within your home so you can recharge. Small shifts like setting up zones within your home can make a huge difference in boosting your mood.
How to set up zones within your house
Now, more than ever, it’s important to have designated zones within your house. Anyone can do this because you actually don’t need a lot of space to make this happen! If you’re one of many that are working from home due to the pandemic, we suggest you set up a designated work space. Set up a desk in the corner of your bedroom or living room. This is your zone where you only do work. Don’t eat here, browse the web, or get distracted. This is your space to wear your thinking cap and grind. If you’re able to, place your desk near a window. It’s proven that natural light and fresh air can significantly boost a persons mood.
If you can, we encourage you to get outside! Whether for a run, brisk walk, or even bike ride. But we get it, some days getting your daily exercise outside is unrealistic. This is when a designated workout space to get your body moving is essential. Roll out a yoga mat, turn on a diffuser with citrus essential oils, fill up a bottle with ice water and get flowing. There are tons of free bodyweight exercises you can follow along online. You can place your yoga mat on your deck, an area of your living room, or bedroom. Get creative with how you use your space at home!
Creating a resting zone within your home during these difficult times is essential to your wellbeing and mental health. Even if it means stepping away from your computer and phone to unplug for a few minutes. We suggest getting cozy on your favorite chair, bean bag, or sit outside on your porch. You want to make sure your resting zone is all about unplugging and taking time for yourself. Here, you can journal, meditate, listen to calming music, or read a book. Use your resting zone daily and you’ll start to notice an improvement in your mood and motivation.
Set the tone for your day
How you start the day is the key to success. Make your bed, get dressed for the day, brew your cup of coffee, open your windows and let the fresh air slowly seep in, and get to work at your in home office space! It’s important to remember to take breaks. Use your other zones in the house to unplug and recharge.
